• Document Management - Native XML Database Designed the architecture for, led the coding of the company's first product, a document management system initially targeted at the financial services vertical market, and subsequently repackaged as a general purpose XML content repository and indexing engine, Xfinity Server.

Chief Architect

• Customer Service -- Call Center Retrofitted a new Java Swing User Interface layer on the service APIs built for AT&T/TCI in the previous job at TRW. The new UI proved and extended the earlier architecture with the addition of an XML and DOM like business objects layer within a strict Model-View-Controller patterned client application.

Project Manager, Technical Lead, Systems Architect

• Customer Service -- Call Center Architected, designed, and managed implementation of the primary tool for use by customer service in AT&T/TCI's @HOME call center. The system united billing, customer interaction tracking, service provisioning, and trouble shooting applications within a single Web based user interface. Middleware layer performed transaction management with local ORACLE database and remote, legacy billing system and provisioning applications.

Project Leader

• Directory Composition and Pagination Developed automated directory (yellow and white pages) pagination system. The system was used throughout ITT World Directories' operating units, producing a wide range of layout styles.

  The system incorporated a Scheme-based extension language and an SGML parser, included a GUI process flow management tool for users to operate the pagination system along with any pre- or post- processing activities. Managed successful installations of the product in Holland, Norway, South Africa, and Portugal.

Performed multiple IT design, development, and implementation projects for various clients. Performed in technical, as well as management positions.

• Product Catalog Designed the software for, and managed the conversion of, the scientific products provider's product catalog from a proprietary typesetting language.

• Technical Documentation Analyzed documents and specified system to convert a large computer peripherals manufacturer's technical documentation from mainframe-based to an Interleaf authoring and maintenance environment.

For this publishing systems supplier, served as Project Manager for Yellow Pages composition and pagination system in partnership with U S WEST Communications.

Nine years in technical and management roles in this division of a large printing firm. Managed software development and technical support staff and had responsibility for defining and promoting the information systems' architecture. Worked with other members of the management team in developing the strategic and tactical plans for the division.

• Typesetting Systems Moved graphics production systems based on mainframe and proprietary typesetters to networked PC, Macintosh, and UNIX computers and desktop publishing software.

• Display Ad Production Selected, installed and maintained computer systems (hardware, software, network) for display ad production service. Designed and implemented production tracking and workflow management system for the facility.

• Database Publishing Created and maintained a generalized, parameter driven system for composing and paginating database extracts and SGML tagged text. The system was used to produce a variety of catalogs and directories and served as the primary revenue generator for the division.

• Legal Publishing Created batch software for composing camera ready copy for law books with complex pagination requirements including loose-leaf inserts, tables, forms, illustrations, and multi-column and multi-page footnotes.
