The fire broke out at about 5:15 p.m., in a section of a mill complex near the Malden Mills buildings. It was still burning after midnight, with firefighters engaged in an extensive operation, Murphy said. Two other buildings caught fire, and firefighters had trouble determining where the blaze originated.
