Three small children and a man who tried to rescue them died early Sunday in a house fire, authorities said.
A girl and a pair of 1-year-old twins died at the house in Fresno, about 16 miles southwest of Houston, said Terriann Carlson, spokeswoman for the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Department.
A 26-year-old died in the blaze after he tried rescuing the children, Carlson said. His relationship to the children was unclear.
The fire, which began before dawn, engulfed and destroyed the rural wood-frame house. A neighbor said the children lived with their parents in Houston and had been visiting their grandfather.
Three others were injured in the blaze.
The cause of the fire was being investigated, Carlson said.
