Dennis Quaid twins recovering from medical overdose

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The two-week-old twins of actor Dennis Quaid were recovering in a Los Angeles hospital on Wednesday after mistakenly being given a massive overdose of a blood thinning drug. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, one of the United States' leading hospitals, apologized on Wednesday for what it called the "preventable error" that led to the twins and another unidentified child being given 10,000 units of the anti-coagulant Heparin, instead of the normal 10 units given to babies.

Just A Minute With: Donald Fagen

NEW YORK (Reuters) - American musician Donald Fagen -- half of jazz-rock duo Steely Dan alongside Walter Becker -- is in no rush to put out a fourth solo album, having taken 25 years to produce the first three. Outside of Steely Dan, Fagen's three albums -- "The Nightfly," "Kamakiriad," and "Morph The Cat" -- have chronicled various stages in his life and encompassed his love of science fiction and jazz.

Mary-Kate Olsen hospitalized for kidney infection

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Mary-Kate Olsen, one-half of the acting Olsen twins who gained fame on 1990s television show "Full House," has been hospitalized in New York City for a kidney infection, her representative said on Tuesday. "She is resting comfortably and will be released in the next day or so," her spokeswoman Nicole Caruso said in an e-mail to Reuters. Further details were not disclosed.

Julia Roberts designs a first in Armani bracelet

MILAN (Reuters) - "Pretty Woman" star Julia Roberts has designed a bracelet for Giorgio Armani to sell for World AIDS Day, the fashion house said on Tuesday. It is the first time the Italian designer has worked with another name on a product.

Running back Holmes ends comeback with retirement

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Three-time Pro Bowl running back Priest Holmes of the Kansas City Chiefs ended his remarkable comeback by announcing his retirement from the National Football League Wednesday. Holmes had returned to training camp with the Chiefs in July after being sidelined with head and neck injuries for almost two years following a devastating hit by San Diego's Shawne Merriman on October 30, 2005.

Spanish film legend Fernan-Gomez dies age 86

MADRID (Reuters) - Fernando Fernan-Gomez, one of Spain's most famous actors and directors, died in Madrid on Wednesday aged 86, Spanish media reported. Fernan-Gomez, who was born in Lima, Peru while his actress mother was on tour there, made over 200 appearances in Spanish television series and films including Spain's 1992 Oscar-winning film La Belle Epoque, which also starred a young Penelope Cruz.

Prosecutors say Vick to pay nearly $1 million for dog care

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. prosecutors on Tuesday said football star Michael Vick, who is awaiting sentencing in connection with a dogfighting case, must pay nearly $1 million for the care of 54 pit bulls seized at his property this year. The prosecutors filed a motion in U.S. District Court in Richmond, Virginia, asking District Judge Henry Hudson to freeze Vick's assets to reserve the money to cover the bills.

Leading Hungarian author Szabo dies aged 90

BUDAPEST (Reuters) - Magda Szabo, one of Hungary's most famous authors, died on Monday aged 90, Hungarian news agency MTI reported. Szabo won Hungary's top literary award, the Kossuth Prize, in 1978. She died while reading at home in the eastern city of Debrecen where she was born, MTI said.

Malawi lauds Madonna for helping orphans

LILONGWE (Reuters) - The Malawi government on Tuesday applauded Madonna's efforts to put the plight of the country's AIDS orphans on the global stage and raising money to support them. The American singer said last week she would work with luxury goods maker Gucci to raise at least $2 million for Malawi's one million orphans.
