No AGR Support
I believe NGAUS and the state chapters serve legitimate services for Guard members and the issues NGAUS is willing to address are hard ones in which we really need a voice. Thank you.
I find that a lot of the issues have no direct impact on me, but one issue I constantly fight with has been very quiet lately.
In my Guard position as deputy staff judge advocate, there are no fulltime Active Guard and Reserve (AGR) or technicians in the office during the month; it is strictly a traditional Guard office.
There is a tremendous amount of work that the clients need us to handle. There just never seems to be enough days to do the job.
I find I do a lot of my Guard work during the month with no compensation. Anytime I ask for additional time to go to the Guard office to take care of business, I am told the same story: Sorry, no days or dollars to put you on orders.
I know we are all doing more with less, but something has to give. The work is there; the need is real. I believe all of the Guard is pushed to its limit.
It seems all I ever hear about is further cuts instead of what a bargain the Guard is to the active duty world. We really need to be given the resources necessary to do our job.
In my case that resource is days and dollars to get the job done. I make a good living in my civilian job. I lose money when I am on Guard time. I am not making this complaint because I want more money.
The government, however, is not a charity. It needs to provide for its members, to include services such as what my office offers to members. If we cannot get into the office, we cannot provide for the service members' needs.
