Intended for contract manufacturing and OEMs, the TNW-3500R automated lathe from Fuji Machine America Corp. (Vernon Hills, IL) provides turning, drilling, and milling operations-all in one machine. The machine offers easy changeover and is well-suited for high-mix, high-volume production.

Previously sold in Japan, the lathe is now available for the first time in the US. Twin spindles, a robot, a slant bed, and a gantry loader are among its features. A live-tool turret performs secondary operations; live-tool motor power is 3/5 hp (2.2/3.7 kW). Machine footprint is 190 χ 105 mm.

For built-in automation, the lathe features a two-axis rack-and-pinion swing-arm robot from Fuji with a 22-lb (10-kg) capacity and dual 10tool turrets. The A2-6 spindle is driven by a 15/20-hp (11/15-kW) spindle motor and operates at a maximum of 4200 rpm.

A work stocker (20 stations), chip conveyor, and a set of turret holders are included as standard. For userfriendly operation, the lathe includes the Fanuc 31Oi-A CNC Control.

An Intelligent Load Monitor is included as standard, and according to the manufacturer no additional sensors are required. This monitor detects insert wear and breakage. It's programmable by touchscreen. Circle 204
