BOSTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department said Tuesday it charged 11 people for stealing tens of millions of credit and debit card numbers of customers shopping at major U.S. retailers, including TJX Cos Inc.
The U.S. Attorney in Boston said those charged were involved in the theft of more than 40 million credit and debit card numbers.
U.S. officials said they believe it is the largest identity-theft case ever prosecuted by the Justice Department.
