A little more than a year ago (May 2007) we published in this space the announcement that Identifix, a source of online and hotline diagnostic and repair information, had added the 150,000th hotline Archive to its subscription-based Direct-Hit online diagnostic product. Direct-Hit lets technicians know what's breaking on today's vehicles, on which models it breaks and how to diagnose and fix those vehicles quickly and accurately.
The latest milestone? That hotline Archive number has now reached 250,000. In addition, Identifix delivers more than 100,000 Confirmed Fixes in Direct-Hit.
A Confirmed Fix is the result of a technician using a Hotline Archive to fix a problem, confirming exactly how he was able to fix that specific problem. When validated by an Identifix technician, the Confirmed Fix is then added to the hotline Archive, making it even more valuable because of the addition of this experience-based repair information.
In addition to Direct-Hit, Identifix also offers the Repair hotline, which is staffed by more than 45 ASE-Master Certified technicians specializing in five carline groups. Technicians wishing to speak one-on-one with an Identifix Master Technician can call the hotline and receive the diagnostic assistance they need.
"By using Identifix, a shop is able to see whether other shops are observing similar problems on vehicles," said Jeff Sweet, Identifix president. "The shop can then take advantage of the shortcut tests created by our Mas-ter Technicians and use likely causes to find fixes faster."
