New Acquisition and Analysis Software

Perception 5.0 adds one-click Microsoft Word output, trace markers and user tables to make it even easier to get the reports users need in the formats that they want. In addition, the level of report-writing automation has been increased to allow users of the Nicolet Genesis and Liberty data acquisition systems more time to concentrate on test setup and data analysis. With the new trace markers, users can mark points or areas of interest in each dataset. Even better, these markers can be automated based on search or calculation functions, saving time by generating fully automated and annotated test results immediately. User tables can be created to display any number of test results in Microsoft Excel format. The tables can become part of the reports or can be transferred to MS Word or MS Excel with a single button click. LDS Test and Measurewent, Middleton, WI.

VibControl, Rev. 2.10 Available

VibControl products for advanced vibration testing and signal analysis from four to hundreds of input channels are used by many leading environmental test labs. The latest VibControl Revision 2.10 introduces new useful capabilities and enhancements. The most obvious is the user interface, which has been completely reworked and adapted to the current MS Office 20Ox style. To facilitate management and handling of transducer information, a transducer database in MS Excel format has been added. The new Revision 2.10 supports the growing number of new sensors having TEDS functionality, allowing users to quickly transfer a sensor's TEDS data directly to the editor instead of having to enter them manually. An online test log that provides a chronological report of all test events has been enhanced to display whenever a channel starts or stops notching in sine or random testing, m+p international, Verona, NJ.

Signal Conditioner with Filter

Model 4999 low-pass filter signal conditioner has individual input ground isolation to eliminate ground loops often encountered with multi-channel measurements. The unit is particularly well suited for applications such as rotating machinery test cells and the nuclear services industry where a very low noise floor is required. The 16-channel, 2U-rack-mounted Model 4999 offers an ultra-low-noise design in a 4- or 6-pole low-pass filter conditioner that supplies excitation current to IEPE (ISOTRON®, ICP®) type sensors and remote charge converters. Ultra-low broadband noise of <30 µV RMS provides high accuracy when measuring low-level vibration signals. Endevco Corp., San Juan Capistrano, CA.

Vibration Isolation Systems

Technical Manufacturing Corporation's (TMC) comprehensive 2008 general catalog presents its versatile line of precision vibration isolation systems, including its most recent offerings in PZT technology. The catalog details the company's many standard products and their recommended applications. Featured is the STACIS® 2100 active piezoelectric vibration cancellation system for the most sensitive instruments in noisy environments. The new introductions include Electro-Damp® PZT, a lowcost, compact, piezoelectric active isolator designed to be mounted inside precision semiconductor tools and TableTop PZT(TM) and FloorPlatform PZT(TM), versions of Electro-Damp PZT configured for bench-top and floor-mounted instruments. Technical Manufacturing Corp., Peabody, MA.

Accelerometer Input Module

Model SCM5B48 is an isolated and fieldconfigurable accelerometer input signal conditioning module. Features include accuracy of 0.2% across all gain and excitation settings, with no need for adjustment. In addition, output noise is reduced to a very low 200 µV rms, which is essential for accurate measurements. The unit provides excitation to piezoelectric sensors with built-in microelectronic amplifiers. It offers a constant current excitation to the sensor, then isolates, filters and amplifies the sensor output, yielding a high-level analog voltage output. Excitation current, signal gain, and filter high-pass and low-pass cutoff frequencies are field-configurable through a set of slide switches. Dataforth Corp., Tucson, AZ.

Rugged OC Accelerometers

Models 3801A and 4801A are critically damped DC accelerometers for steady-state and transient measurement in harsh environments. The compact, hermetically sealed models incorporate gas-damped MEMS sensing elements with wide frequency response. High-performance applications include flight and vehicle testing, transportation measurements, mining, ship shock and environmental testing. Offered in ranges from ±2 to ±2000 g, the accelerometers are suitable for both low-level and high-end transient shock measurements. aIntegral over-range stops provide shock protection to over 10,000 g without affecting calibration. Measurement Specialties Inc., Hampton, VA.

RS #208

Microphone Power Supply

Model 2221 provides a highly stable DC polarization voltage required by precision microphones along with low noise amplification enabling it to drive input and output cables as long as 500 ft. It is rugged, lightweight and will provide up to 40 hours of continuous operation (with PRM902 Microphone Preamplifier) using six AA internal batteries. It can also provide enough current to power the PRM903 microphone preamplifier, which has an internal heater. Larson Davis, a division of PCB Piezotronics, Inc., Depew, NY.

RS #209

Through-Hole Accelerometer

Model 3211A IEPE accelerometer is designed for applications where a 360° orientation and low-profile design are important. At 9.6 grams, the unit is ideal for use where vertical clearance is limited. It also features a side exit 10-32 connector and mounting screw. The unit also features all titanium construction, hermetic seal, ring-style configuration, low-noise JFET electronics, and 390° connector orientation. It's available in 10 mv/g and 100 mV/g sensitivities. Dytran Instruments, Inc., Chatsworth, CA.

RS #210

Displacement Sensors

The PC420D is an IEPE displacement transducer and 4-20 mA vibration transmitter packaged as a single sensor. The new sensor monitors rotating equipment and outputs a real time signal proportional to vibration displacement. By trending this real-time data, plant personnel are able to schedule preventative maintenance activities around planned downtime. Because balance components tend to dominate the vibration spectrum when viewed in displacement units, the sensor is able to track the balance component of machines. PC420D is ideal for condition-based monitoring and predictive maintenance of motors in the speed range of 300-60,000 RPM (5-1,000 Hz). Wilcoxon Research, Inc., Germantown, MD.

RS #211

Engine Pressure Sensor

Pressure sensor for engine research type 6045A is designed around a unique PiezoStar® crystal element that has a sensitivity of-45 pC/bar. This high-level signal reduces data compromising effects and eases signal conditioning. The output remains linear at elevated temperatures, eliminating the need for water cooling. With low thermal shock in high-impedance, charge-mode operation, this unit meets test-track demands. Sensor mounting incorporates a shoulder seal design for efficient heat control. The unit is compatible with common laboratory charge amplifiers and is interchangeable with water-cooled style 6041A. Kistler Instrument Corp., Amherst, NY.
