In Japan, smokers can buy cigarettes from vending machines. The machines read ID cards to check that their customers are of legal age (20). But underage people can fool these machines just by borrowing someone else's ID card.
Now, vending machines are being upgraded with digital cameras. Every customer will have to look into the camera, and a computer will then analyze the customer's bone structure, wrinkles, and skin-sagginess to estimate whether he or she is old enough to buy cigarettes. There are still glitches, though - people can fool some of the cameras just by holding up a youthful magazine photograph.
