SYRACUSE - A Saratoga Springs-based architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, and planning firm opened a new office in Syracuse on Nov. 1.
Saratoga Associates already had one satellite location in New York City and a solid base of business in the area so a Central New York office was a natural next step, says John Guariglia, Syracuse managing principal. The company works with developers, energy companies, higher-education institutions, and municipalities.
The firm has plans to grow in the Syracuse market, Guariglia says. The office opened with two people, and the goal is to grow that total to six over the next year or so.
The local site will serve clients in both Central and Western New York, Guariglia adds.
"We've done a lot of work in Central New York and Western New York," he says. It just made common sense to be closer to the client base."
Companywide, Saratoga Associates em-ploys about 60. The firm occupies 2,000 square feet in Syracuse's State Tower Building on South Warran Street.
Some of Saratoga Associate's Central New York clients include the city of Auburn, the town of Victor, Hamilton College, Cornell University,'and the State University of New York at Oswego. The company has also worked on projects at Love Canal, Fort Drum, and brownfields in the region.
The firm also works frequently on wind-power projects, Guariglia says. Saratoga Associates works with wind developers on issues like transmission-line corridors and performs visual-impact studies as well.
Saratoga Associates generated $7 million in revenue in 2007.
