J. Michael HAYNIE
Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship
WHITMAN SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT, SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY
* Age: 39
* Do you have ideas to attract and keep youth in the Syracuse area? It starts with education - at all levels.
* Where do you see the community and yourself in the next 10 years? I hope and believe that I will still be a professor at Syracuse University, living and working in a community that has 'reinvented' itself with an entrepreneurial approach toward economic development, job creation, and education for our youth.
* Who has been the most influential person in your career? I look to a group of role models from the whole of my professional career. Together, these people represent the ideal for how I formulate my own ideas about leadership, success, and relationships.
* What are your guiding principles in life? Enjoy what you are doing all the time and make the best of every situation - professional or personal.
* What has been your best career decision? Pursuing a passion rather than pursing a 'job.'
* How has your life turned out differently than imagined? A career in higher education was never in the cards, but a chance opportunity to teach for a year at the U.S. Air Force Academy changed my goals and priorities.
* What is one of your quirks? I fidget. I can't seem to remain still very long, and this sometimes drives the people around me crazy.
* What are the core values that have been essential to your success? Hard work. You have to be willing to work hard if you want to achieve anything meaningful in your professional or personal life.
