Broadcaster Neverett makes jump to big leagues

No more getting knocked off the top of the press box by a big gust of wind.

Tim Neverett, the longtime Las Vegas broadcaster who had moved on to The Mtn., the Mountain West Conference’s full-coverage sports network, and Versus, which also covers the Mountain West, has been named the Pittsburgh Pirates’ new play-by-play broadcaster.

It couldn’t have happened to a harder-working guy. Or a nicer one.

Neverett is the fourth former Las Vegas Stars/51s announcer to make the jump to the big leagues, joining Paul Olden, Ken Korach and Rich Waltz. He also called UNLV football games and got his start in Las Vegas as the voice of the defunct Thunder hockey team.

In addition to those assignments, Neverett has called a bunch of other sports during his 24 years in broadcasting that, although not too numerous to list here, would still take up a lot of space.
