SAVE YOUR WORLD (saveyourworld.com), which sells everything from lotion to shampoo, leased 200,000 acres of rain forest in Guyana for 30 years to protect it. A purchase of a $20 gift set of soap pays for five acres for one year.

NATURE'S GATE (natures-gate.com), a maker of shampoos, conditioners, and lotions, has donated $100,000 to WaterAid, which educates people in countries like India and Madagascar about water harvesting and sanitation. Five percent of holiday gift-set sales will also go to the water fund.

PANGEA ORGANICS (pangeaorganics.com) funds the Pangea Institute, which is building a women-owned cooperative in Zambia that will produce their rosemary and lemongrass oils. By 2012, their goal is to purchase 20 percent of their raw ingredients from women who work on farms.

  WATKINS NATURAL APOTHECARY
has a new line of skincare based on its long history of healing. We love their Hand & Cuticle Salve and Body Oil ($7 and $6; respectively; jrwatkins.com).
