New courses that combine tradition- al in-class study with self-regulating Web-based study have been intro- duced by Bosch Training. In this "Blended Learning" curriculum, the Web-based material makes it possible to reduce the length of the courses, thus keeping technicians in the shop where their expertise is needed during part of the training cycle. This so-called learn-whereyou-live approach is supplemented by the traditional hands-on teaching method in a real-world environment. This OEM-level training, which was previously open only to Bosch Car Service (BCS) shops (see below), is now available to all aftermarket facilities, regardless of affiliation.

Because technicians learn best by doing, practical work in small groups is a core part of Bosch training. Bosch reportedly is one of the few companies to offer a learning environment that combines theory-based knowledge with a technician's practical experience.

The Bosch training program is regularly modified to address current industry requirements. For instance, four new blended learning courses were recently added to the program - Gasoline Direct Injection, Vehicle Networking, Safety Systems and Passenger Car Diesel.

Other Web-based courses are being developed as well. Log on to www.boschtechinfo.com for further details.

The company also has announced the expansion - in both membership and benefits - of the BCS program in North America. BCS Service Centers must pass a rigorous evaluation process to be accepted into the program, where members receive excellent parts and technical support and have access to an expanding suite of training classes. Training is not limited to technology; a wide range of business management classes is offered, as well.

Within the BCS program, direct mail marketing tools focus on customer retention and help draw in new customers, and imaging programs promote brand awareness. The program also features cross-promotions with other Bosch divisions, giving BCS centers marketing access to a wide array of customers and programs.
