Delphi is launching new service and training product lines that it says are comprehensive in coverage and competitive in price. The products in the DS line- DS650, DS850 and DS450 - are designed specifically for aftermarket shops that are looking to increase productivity and increase shop revenue.
On the service front, DS650 is a front-of-shop solution aimed at maximizing a shop's profit by help ing the service writer identify, ex tract and sell services. It comes with the software, vehicle interface, user guide and a cable that can be connected directly to the shop's PC. There's also an option to wirelessly integrate into the shop management system to provide increased efficiency for the vehicle check-in process.
DS850 is a back-of-shop workflow management and vehicle diagnostic system that also can be connected to a PC. In addition to the many features it shares with the DS650, this system also comes with the DS450 OBD II scan tool, diagnostic information, access to a library of online training plus other enhancements.
DS450, which was previously offered only in a service product package, is now available as a stand-alone product. The bidirectional PC-based scan tool allows quick access of DTCs and data in a variety of formats, and includes Mode $09 diagnostics presented in an easy-to-read, user- friendly format.
The products in the DS line provide full coverage for Asian vehicles, in addition to models from GM, Ford and Chrysler. The line adheres to AAIA's i.SHOP connectivity standards, which enable seamless data integration with i.SHOP-compliant shop management systems.
In addition to the above-mentioned service products, Delphi has announced the availability of 19 new or updated training courses. Many focus on new technology and advanced vehicle systems diagnostics, such as gasoline direct injection.
Included in the training product portfolio is "Introduction to Hybrid Electric Vehicles" (see photo), which prepares diagnosticians with information they must know before attempting maintenance or diagnostics on hybrid vehicles.
Because of the growing consumer interest in hybrids, vehicle manufacturers are producing more models, and sales are expected to more than double within ten years.
Said Gary Abusamra, vice president, global service operations, Delphi Product & Service Solutions: "As the hybrid vehicle population ages and wears, more and more will come into the aftermarket for service. As shops see more of their customers transitioning from internal combustion engines to HEVs, technicians must have the knowledge to diagnose and service these vehicles properly, in order to retain customers and help keep their shops profitable."
Delphi is also introducing a new training course targeted to the new family of diesel vehicles equipped with Common Rail Direct Injection. In addition to the hybrid and diesel titles, 17 other courses are available.
