Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Wits University 2-0 Sunday to record their fifth consecutive South African Premiership win and move within three points of leaders SuperSport United.

South Africa midfielder Surprise Moriri headed both goals for the Pretoria club, rising unchallenged to steer a cross past Darren Keet after three minutes and winning the race to a free kick 14 minutes from full-time.

Moroka Swallows took their chances to edge dominant Orlando Pirates 2-1 and climbed to fourth place, five points off the pace but with a game in hand on the other title challengers.

A blunder by goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs gifted the 'Birds' a 34th-minute goal through Kagiso Denge and Sandile Ndlovu stretched the lead with a header nine minutes into the second half.

Pirates, who wasted numerous chances at Olympia Park in the north-west city of Rustenburg, finally broke through on the hour mark when Siphelele Mthembu punished a mistake by Swallows Nigerian goalkeeper Greg Etafia.

SuperSport have 37 points, Sundowns 34, Kaizer Chiefs 33, Swallows and Ajax Cape Town 32 each and Pirates 31 in what is building into a thrilling race for a one million dollar first prize.
