It’s tough in local government these days. You have a huge
budget defi cit. The Man Formerly Known as Governor wants your
money. And now Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley wants some
of your cash, too, to help stabilize education. Buckley, in a brilliant ploy, has pitted education
funding against redevelopment projects. She acted as if she was at a carnival Thursday
in Carson City, taking aim at every elected and appointed local
offi cial who wailed about the theft as if they were plastic ducks popping
up on a midway. As the Economic Forum slashes more from
the budget today, look for locals to come under renewed assault. Redevelopment money
aside, I am sure services will be unaffected when locals are robbed to pay the state.
