Investigators say DNA and fingerprints link a serial killer who terrorized a small South Carolina community to two of three shooting scenes.

Cherokee County Sheriff Bill Blanton said in a news release Thursday that the evidence connects Patrick Burris to the killing of a peach farmer in his home and the shooting deaths of a woman and her daughter in a different home. Five people were killed in less than a week in and around Gaffney, about 50 miles west of Charlotte, N.C.

The release did not address the third shooting linked to Burris — the killing of a furniture store owner and his teen daughter.

Burris was killed July 6 after shooting at police in North Carolina.

Authorities have said ballistics from a gun found with Burris also link him to the five killings that began June 27.
