The U.S. military says an American soldier has died of injuries sustained during an attack on a U.S. patrol in the Iraqi capital.

A military statement says the soldier assigned to Multi-National Division-Baghdad died Sunday but gave no further details.

It says the soldier's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. It says the incident is under investigation.

The death raises to at least 4,335 members of the U.S. military who have died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003. That's according to an Associated Press count.
