Ex-Scotland coach Craig Brown on Tuesday took over as interim boss of Motherwell a day after the Scottish Premier League club parted company with Jim Gannon.
Brown will take charge of the team for the Premier League match against Hearts at Tynecastle with Archie Knox working as his assistant.
"In the short-term I am effectively the manager of the club, and my colleague will be with me, Archie," Brown told Sky Sports News.
"We are responsible for the next few games. It's not specified the number of games but we are asked to hold the fort meantime.
"The chairman, Mr (John) Boyle, is in Australia and the board will get together when he returns in the new year and they will decide on a managerial appointment."
Motherwell sit sixth in the table after suffering their fourth successive loss, 3-1 to St Johnstone, on Saturday.
