Meghan McCain, the daughter of Arizona Senator John McCain and a gay-friendly Republican, hit President Obama, Rick Perry and Mitt Romney for opposing gay marriage.
Referring to the NOH8 Campaign, a silent protest which raises funds for gay causes, including repeal of Proposition 8, California's gay marriage ban, Thomas asked: “You posed for the No on H8 Campaign, do you think that social issues have a place with the GOP frontrunners? Especially like Romney, who isn't backing federal marriage equality, same thing with Perry.”
“You know, I would hope so. I would really hope that any of these candidates would realize that gay marriage in this country is a civil rights issue and not a political one. Whether or not it's going to happen with the Republican Party, I don't know. But it's not like President Obama is out there, you know, passing gay marriage everywhere in this country,” McCain answered. (The video is embedded in the right panel of this page.)
