KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Reuters) - Two people were injured in a shooting in a suburban Kansas City mall Saturday afternoon, prompting officials to lock down the shopping center, police said.

The shooting occurred at the Independence Center, in Independence, Mo., just outside Kansas City.

The injuries to the shooting victims were not life threatening, a dispatcher for the Independence Police Department said.

A mall spokeswoman said the company would release a statement later Saturday.
