FTSE 100 closes higher

London equities closed higher Friday on upbeat US data but sentiment remained fragile as investors worried that Greece could be heading for a potentially disastrous default.

Lloyds Banking Group (LBG) was the most traded stock, seeing 226 million shares change hands, followed by Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), which saw 133 million units switch owners.

CRH was the top blue-chip performer, rising 5.25 percent -- or 67 pence -- to close at 1343, followed by Vedanta which rose 4.54 percent -- 57 pence -- to 1312.

Ashmore Group was the worst performer, seeing shares slip 1.88 percent -- or 7.50 pence -- to stand at 390.6, followed by G4S, which dipped 1.44 percent -- or 4.10 pence -- at 280.1.

On the currency markets, the pound was worth $1.5817 at 17:04 GMT, up from $1.5800 at the same time on Thursday, while it stood at 1.2029 euros, down from 1.2033 over the same period.
