Rick Santorum on Sunday suggested that college students are being coerced into accepting liberal views.
During an appearance on ABC's This Week, Santorum defended calling President Barack Obama a “snob” for saying all Americans should aspire to attend college.
Obama recently said he wanted “every American to commit to at least one year or more of higher education or career training.”
“I understand why Obama wants every kid to go to college, because they are indoctrination mills,” Santorum earlier told Glenn Beck.
When host George Stephanopoulous asked Santorum what he meant by the comments, the former senator from Pennsylvania said colleges force students to be politically correct.
“I went through it at Penn State,” Santorum said. “You talk to most kids who go to college and, who are conservatives, and you are singled out, you are ridiculed … I can tell you personally, I went through a process where I was docked for my conservative views.”
“This is not a neutral setting.”
“Understand that we have some real problems on our college campuses with political correctness, with an ideology that is forced upon people who may not agree the political correct left doctrine,” he added.
Santorum has been criticized for keeping social issues, including abortion, religious liberty and gay marriage, on the front burner of his campaign.
