A shooting at a Texas courthouse left at least one person dead and three others wounded but the suspect is in custody after trying to take people hostage, local media reported Wednesday.
A dispatcher at the Beaumont, Texas police station contacted by AFP confirmed that a shooting had taken place but said she could not provide further details.
An elderly woman died after she was shot outside the courthouse, KFDM news said citing paramedics.
Three others were shot but survived, including another person shot outside the courthouse, one shot in the basement of the county clerk's office and a third at a bus station.
The shooter was taken to hospital by ambulance after trying to take hostages at the nearby chamber of commerce. Employees were able to get the gun away from him, KFDM reported without providing further details.
