Power takes Brazil IndyCar pole

IndyCar season points leader Will Power of Australia edged reigning series champion Dario Franchitti of Scotland in Saturday's qualifying to win the pole position for Sunday's Sao Paulo Indy 300.

Power, seeking his third victory in four races this season, completed a lap over the 2.536-mile street circuit in a course-record 1min 21.4045secs with Franchitti second to take the outside spot on the front row in 1:21.4485.

The Aussie seeks his third consecutive victory at Sao Paulo in Sunday's 75-lap showdown. He will start from the pole for the second year in a row after claiming his 26th career IndyCar pole.

New Zealand's Scott Dixon qualified third, followed in order by Canada's James Hinchcliffe, American Ryan Hunter-Reay, England's Justin Wilson, American Graham Rahal and England's Mike Conway.

Power entered the weekend with a 127-106 season points lead over Brazil's Helio Castroneves with France's Simon Pagenaud third at 100, four points ahead of Dixon and five in front of Hinchcliffe.
