New York couple Carter Etherington and Breken Elwood tied the knot Sunday surrounded by thousands of revelers during Toronto's 32nd annual Gay Pride Parade.
The crowd erupted in cheers when the grooms kissed.
The couple, who had been considering marriage, was the winner of a wedding ceremony from Tourism Toronto. The package included airfare, hotel accommodations at the Windsor Arms Hotel and an official marriage ceremony during Toronto Pride.
A private ceremony with family and friends took place on Saturday.
“It's not only our responsibility but our pleasure to come to a country that allows gay couples to legally recognize their love and their relationships. We hope we're able to make a difference in the U.S. with our story,” Etherington told the paper.
“We're just one example of an everyday couple in love and who have hopes and dreams and want to share their lives. How could people be so scared of love? If that's the most dangerous thing in the world, that's shocking to me.”
