Fourteen Russian pilgrims on their way to a monastery in Ukraine were killed and 29 injured when their bus overturned in the north of the country Saturday, the emergency situations ministry said.
The ministry said the bus carrying 43 Russians, including two drivers, swerved across the road and overturned on the verge near Chernigiv on its way to the Orthodox monastery in western Ukraine from the Russian town of Velikiye Luki.
The dead included a 17-year-old girl and six of the injured were in serious condition, the ministry said.
Authorities said a plane had been sent from Moscow to repatriate the survivors.
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich expressed condolences to the families in a message to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and ordered a thorough inquiry into the cause of the crash, his office said.
