Boston College's Luke Kuechly was named a finalist yesterday for the Butkus Award honoring the nation's top linebacker. The 6-foot-3-inch, 237-pound junior from Cincinnati leads the nation with 96 solo tackles and 182 total tackles in 11 games this season. Other finalists include Lavonte David (Nebraska), Dont'a Hightower (Alabama), Jarvis Jones (Georgia), Manti Te'o (Notre Dame), and Courtney Upshaw (Alabama). Kuechly has recorded 523 career tackles - most ever in the Atlantic Coast Conference - in 36 games and is averaging 14.1 tackles per game. He is one tackle shy of matching his ACC record for tackles in a season, established last year, and one shy of BC's career record set by linebacker Stephen Boyd (1991-94) . . .
