Selected in 1974 to be president of Regis College, Sister Thérèse Higgins made it clear that progressive views would guide her as she led the then-all women's Catholic school in Weston. ``I'm a consistent women's libber,'' she told the Globe that April. Women have untapped potential and gifts, Sister Thérèse said in the 1974 interview, even though they often are forced into subordinate roles in major professions. ``A women's perception of herself is very important,'' she said. ``She must see herself as a person who has something that no one else can give to society.'' Sister Thérèse, who led Regis for 18 years as the college expanded its programs and added centers for the arts and athletics, died Sunday in Bethany Health Care Center in Framingham.
