Family of missing Navy pilot to get another military briefing, plans memorial for Friday. The family of a long-missing Navy pilot will get another military briefing Tuesday on information surrounding his death in Iraq nearly 20 years ago. That will be followed by a memorial service on Friday.

The family of Michael "Scott" Speicher received the first of a series of top-secret briefings Tuesday about the discovery of his remains in Iraq, 18 years after his Navy plane was shot down on the first night of the 1991 Gulf War, their attorney said.

Missing pilot Speicher's family getting remains back after 18 year ordeal over his whereabouts. A spokeswoman for the family of Navy pilot Michael "Scott" Speicher (SPYK'-uhr) says it will continue seeking on its own to learn how he died, now that his remains have been found.

Gulf War mystery ends as US identifies remains of Navy pilot missing since 1991 crash in Iraq. Navy pilot Michael "Scott" Speicher was shot down over the Iraq desert on the first night of the Gulf War in 1991 and it was there he apparently was buried by Bedouins, the sand hiding him from the world's mightiest military all these years.
