The town of Avon is officially a ``film-friendly'' jurisdiction, according to Town Administrator Michael McCue. Selectmen named McCue the town's film liaison last week and charged him with welcoming potential movie and television projects. The action was in response to an inquiry from the Massachusetts Film Office, asking whether the town wanted to be included in the state's list of communities interested in hosting film crews. ``There are plenty of sites in Avon worthy of inclusion in a motion picture,'' McCue said. ``I hope the industry will recognize this in the near future.'' - Johanna Seltz

There were no forks. No cranberry sauce. No potatoes. No apple pie. No pumpkin pie. Water was the beverage of choice, because there was not much else. Venison and fowl were the main items on the menu, and some of the dishes probably contained guts or innards, such as deer heart, liver, and lung.

Olympic luge hopeful Julia Clukey hurts neck doing pull-ups, won't race this weekend. USA Luge says Julia Clukey will not race in this weekend's World Cup competition because of a neck injury sustained in an off-ice workout. Clukey will receive a painkilling injection Thursday and reported numbness along her right side. She got hurt doing pull-ups Tuesday.
