Allen was outed in 1996, at the age of 21, when tabloid The Globe published photos of Allen kissing another man in a hot tub. He played gay sleuth Donald Strachey in the mystery film series based on the novels written by Richard Stevenson: Third Man Out, Ice Blues, Shock To The System and On The Other Hand, Death.
