Afghan women protest new controversial law
Afghan women shout slogans during a protest against a controversial new law for Shiite Muslim women, reportedly approved by Afghan President Hamid Karzai, in Kabul, Afghanistan on 15 April 2009. Hundreds of Afghan men on 15 April, pelted stones at a demonstration of some 300 Afghan women, as police struggled to keep the two groups apart. Media reports said that the law, which has not yet been published, bans women from seeking work, getting an education or making a doctor's appointment without their husbands' permission
