The Berlin Staatsoper says it will try to compensate a temporary move from its splendid but crumbling house on Unter den Linden Boulevard to the smaller Schiller Theater by bringing on more new productions and more exciting ones at that. The opera's musical director Daniel Barenboim said Tuesday he has decided to see the move during the three-year renovation of this 19th century house as a chance rather than a calamity.
