Supporters of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance celebrate after the announcement of results in their favour outside the counting centre in Amritsar in Punjab on Tuesday. By the afternoon of March 6, the Akali Dal BJP alliance had won 19 seats against 12 for the ruling Congress party.
