Written contracts, like even the strongest sisterly bonds, can be broken. So said the judge who ruled Tuesday that an 87-year-old Connecticut woman who won a $500,000 lottery jackpot does not have to share the windfall with her sister. Superior Court Judge Cynthia K. Swienton determined that a notarized contract between the sisters to share any gambling proceeds was no longer in effect when their longtime lottery numbers came in, because of a previous falling-out. Ironically enough, that dispute was also over money, $250 that Rose Bakaysa, 87, had lent her sister Theresa Sokaitis, 84, and wanted back. Sokaitis said she didn't have the money and told her sister ``I don't want to be your partner anymore,'' Swienton wrote. Bakaysa agreed. ``This case has been characterized as one involving two sisters, both well into their 80s, `fighting' over a $500,000 lottery Powerball ticket,'' Swienton wrote. ``In reality, what spurred the argument was far less than half a million dollars, but boils

They always played the same numbers. If one won, they both did. All pots were split 50-50. Now, in a bitter family feud that seems ripped from a Hollywood script, the elderly widows are locked in a protracted legal battle over a $500,000 lottery jackpot, with Sokaitis saying she is rightfully owed a share of the winnings. Yesterday, the two faced off in New Britain Superior Court, with testimony focusing on whether a notarized, decade-old compact between the sisters to share any gambling proceeds was in effect when their longtime lottery numbers came in. In 2005, Bakaysa, an 87-year-old from Plainville, Conn., won the Powerball prize with her brother, Joseph F. Troy Sr. Sokaitis, an 84-year-old from Middletown, quickly sued for brea
