Toyota 4Runner Off-road Capable

One of the original SUV's Still Compelling after All These Years. Toyota 4Runner Off-road Capable By Jim Bray TechnoFile.com Toyota's 4Runner was one of the first SUV's and its newest version is still a compelling vehicle for those who want four wheel drive stability coupled with serious off-roading capability. I haven't driven the 4Runner for a few years, but I always liked it, so I was quite interested in trying the 2010 version ? and not only I lived to tell the story, with nothing untoward regarding acceleration, brakes, steering, Divine Intervention or whatever, I actually enjoyed the vehicle. Go figure! The 4Runner is an "old fashioned" truck-based SUV, as opposed to car-based models such as Toyota's own Highlander. This not only means it's more heavy duty so far as its off road capabilities are concerned, but that it can also tow more than the average car-based ute. For 2010, the 4Runner enters its fifth generation and Toyota says it's redesigned "To be even more rugged and athl

Mazda CX-7 and Mazda6 – Can Less Zoom-Zoom Be a Good Thing?

Four cylinders - and no turbo - still make for compelling Mazdas. Mazda CX-7 and Mazda6 ? Can Less Zoom-Zoom Be a Good Thing? By Jim Bray TechnoFile.com Can downsizing a vehicle's specs supersize its appeal? Mazda hopes so. For a company that has prided itself on the concept of "Zoom-Zoom" for many years, Mazda may seem to be doing a silly thing by "down-powering" its CX-7 SUV. Yet that's exactly what it has done for the 2010 model year. The CX-7 has traditionally been sold with a turbocharged four cylinder engine and is a pretty great SUV/Crossover. It's hard to find any Mazda that isn't fun to drive, even the "microvan" 5 is a comparative blast. But that turbo four did have a drawback: thirst. I drove one on a 600 mile road trip a couple of years back and thought I'd have to take out a second mortgage on my house to pay for the gas (it was a heckuva fun mountain driv
